It was mid-September
when the pennant chase
turned serious. When
the division title and
wild cards were settled
The game had started harmlessly
enough when Bob Consiglio
left a runner on third in
his first at bat. But another
two in his second plate appearance,
Another one in the next
And then stranded
the bases full in the following one.
But with the potential winning run
on base for their hated rivals,
Cal Little ripped a shot off the left field
monster. Bob played
the crazy carom only he would
play it, whipped the throw to the
cut-off man who
nailed the runner at the plate in bang bang style.
Then in true baseball tradition,
he led off the bottom of the frame
by lifting a high majestic fly
over that same imposing wall.
Bob Consiglio had slayed
No crazy caroms for him
no sir'ee, Bob.
